My Nativity Scene ( and last day to win give-away )

Our family celebrations of Christmas are full of gift-giving, Christmas tree decorating, stockings hung on the fireplace mantle to be filled with little treats from Santa after Santa has made a special appearance in our home to talk to the grandchildren, the excitement in anticipating what will be under the tree Christmas morning, sharing Christmas dinner with family and eating all the special foods of the season....yet this is the focal point in our living room, our nativity scene.

"What child is this , who, laid to rest, on Mary's lap is sleeping ? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet , while shepherds watch are keeping ? This, this is Christ the King, whom shepherds guard and angels sing; Haste, haste to bring him laud, the babe, the son of Mary."  hymn 'What child Is This ?'  ~traditional English melody set to text by William C. Dix

The nativity scene might be the focal point of our living room during the Christmas season , more importantly though is that Jesus, the Son of God , our Savior , is the focal point in my heart and life. I don't need a Christmas tree, Santa Claus, presents, or a nativity scene to know and celebrate Him. Jesus, the babe in the manger we celebrate at Christmas grew up and He said in Matthew 11:28~ 30 "Come to Me ,all who are weary and heavy-laden , and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you for I am gentle and humble in heart and you shall find rest for your souls, for My yoke is easy , and My load is light."

Do you want an opportunity to win a pair of Wee Little Sheep * ? Tonight at midnight I will have my husband draw the names of any leaving comments on my blog out of his Santa hat. Your name will be entered for every comment left on my posts ( limited to 1 comment per post ). I will post the name of the winner the 21st.

  3. I love your Nativity scene. I always enjoy setting mine up. Hubby made the creche about 40 + years ago.

I have been drawn closer to Jesus since losing my dear husband. I am thankful that Jesus has promised to never leave or forsake me, and that He is my strength each and every day I am blessed with.

Today is my dear husband's 68th birthday and his 3rd birthday with Jesus. I sang happy birthday to my husband earlier this morning with a smile on my face and no tears.

Have a lovely Christmas with your dear family. It sounds like fun.

  12. You have the nicest nativity scene Kathy and the fact that it is continues on other shelves creates a lovely display. Especially with one of your own wooly sheep by the manger - that's a nice touch.

  15. The creche is my favorite part of Christmas decoration. Unfortunately, a lot of my things are packed away so I am greatly enjoying your corner cabinet scenes. Thank you, Kathy, and Merry Christmas.

  19. Your Nativity set is beautiful. I'm glad I found your blog through a contact on someone else's blog. The Nativity set here is on the dining room buffet, visible from the kitchen and the living room. I love looking at it and thinking of that night, so long ago, when Christ came to earth.
Merry Christmas blessings of love, joy, hope and peace to you and yours.

  20. Hello Kathy....Oh yes, your words ring true in my heart, that's for sure. Jesus is, indeed, the reason for the season. He is there for all the seasons, always.

Please put my name in the hat for the totally adorable sheep. Thanks.

Even if I don't win them, I'll be happy for the person who does.

Hope your entire Christmas week is blessed. Susan

  23. I hope you and your family (including those with 4 legs) will have a wonderful Christmas. Please say a prayer for all the sheep farmers, hit by the terrible floods we've had here in the UK. Blessings

  25. I love the way you have arranged your nativity. God's announcement on that night was not to kings, but to the poorest of people, the shepherds. I arrange mine like yours, but not as big. We cannot portray the host of angels that filled the sky that night, but we can surely imagine why they were 'sore afraid'. What a sight that must have been.
We are praising God for His goodness to us all, and praying for our dear son in law who is deployed during this season. Just read that 6 families will soon receive the sad news that their loved ones were lost today in Afghanistan. No names yet. Thankful that we have a Shepherd who cares so very deeply for his sheep. Immanuel. God with us.
    Merry Christmas Kathy and James
