We have been very blessed, haven't we?
I was just thinking of having an afternoon tea for some friends. In fact, a neighbor across the way told me an interesting story: She is in her 80's and was raised by her grandmother who lived where she does now. Many German immigrants lived in this neighborhood and it was, and still is, referred to as 'Beantown'. Of course this is a neigborhood of old homes and then there were no fences. In that time women were home all day and kids played outside from dawn till night when not in school. The women had clotheslines. If a lady was having the afternoon 'tea' at her house, she would hang out one of her nice tea towels on the line as an invite to her neighbors who would take a little time off their busy chores before starting the evening meal and they would meet to visit.
I'm sure it had its quirks, but it was a time when neighbors knew each other, stepped up to help and kept an eye out for everyone's good. Joy (my neighbor) says she can remember hiding in her grandmother's skirt and watching and listening to the women laugh and talk while eating and drinking, and someone occasionally going to spank a kid! I think I'll blog about that and some other things she's told me!
Have a great tea and Little T.Debbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04612935931627314524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3099877799576584609.post-47703863706978139142011-03-22T05:30:02.963-07:002011-03-22T05:30:02.963-07:00So sweet and precious!
