I am blessed, yes BLESSED, to have a grandson who loves me, and also loves to work. He was eager, very eager, to come over and help me with cleaning my sheep pens.I use the word "help" loosely as he actually did all the mucking and digging out. I supervised and brought out a snack. You can see my woolly bunch of sheep in the background.The cleaned out pens will be used for lambing, but first the sheep will be sheared.
Yes, there they are. My ewes ( girl sheep ) standing just out of reach. Little do they know they will be sheared today . They will no longer be woolly, but naked.
I am so pleased my grandson is a hard worker, a happy worker. Next week we ( he) will clean out the chicken pen. "Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

A hard working boy would sure come in handy for those cumbersome jobs. I need one to clean up my yard this Spring and help me mulch. I wish I had one!

ReplyDeleteThat pic of the sheep all staring at him is funny. Probably would have been a nightmare of his a few years ago. He's probably enjoying cleaning your pens much more than he'll enjoy cleaning his own chicken pen at home but cleaning pens is one of his favorite things.
ReplyDeleteWorking is SO good for kids! I'm glad your little grandson is so diligent! He's being brought up right! We raised our kids to work hard, and nowadays some of the young folk are not raised that way. Everything is given to them. You're so lucky to have such a cute little helper!

Susie, Oregon Gifts of Comfort and Joy,Dolores, good question -the ewes seem to manage without thick wool coats even in the winter. Most sheep lamb in late winter or early spring, and the lambs aren't born with much fleece, nor so they seem to warm themselves up under their moms much, so I guess they are equipped by God to deal with the cold in a very good way.Even when sheared though, they have a scant wool covering and seem to be relieved to not have such thick and cumbersome wool.
Debbie, someone warned me not to make it known that my grandson is such a good worker because workers like him are hard to find and quickly find themselves employed. I know I have him for a few years now and he will train up his younger brother to work hard for me too! My sister already inquired about him working for her in her yard!Find a good homeschooling family and see if they have any boys able to work for you, it would be worth it even if you have to train them to do what is necessary in your yard.

Vickie,I agree with you. So may parents seem to think it is cruel to teach children hard work, and yet, if hard work is not valued and taught when they are young and as they grow up, when will it be learned?
