This bucket is on a stump near our woodshed. I spied a bird in the bucket and my husband dubbed this bird "Bucket Bird".This bird frequents the bucket lately, and I am wondering if the bucket full of sedums is being considered a possible nesting site . It is February after all, and I did spy the swallows checking out the birdhouse they nest in every year.
This little Song Sparrow did not seem too concerned about me being so close, and maybe thought the bucket concealed him / her. "

They often land on the feeders as soon as I re-fill them, paying no mind to me.

It is so sweet to watch a little bird prepare a nest, even when the place they pick isn't convenient for us. We've had nests in open drawers in the shop, or some shoes left outside, and a hanging plant right over the BBQ grill. We don't disturb them, we just postpone using those items until the birds haved raised their families.

ReplyDeleteHow sweet! If it was here, it has to be very careful because of all our outside/barn cats here. Leaving on vacation with my parent's, a week from Tuesday! We're leaving on the 22nd of February.

ReplyDeleteI just love bucket bird!!!! And sparrows are just a favorite of mine. Always have been, ever since I was a little kid. For two years now, a pair of wrens have used my hanging planter as a nest. They seem to love Buster's brown hairs and weaves them into the grasses and twigs they have gathered. I just can't break it up, so it is hanging there until they decide to move on.

I love "Bucket Bird", Kathy! It's always such a wonderful surprise to find little nests in strange places... I have a wren building a nest in the feed room right now~ inside an old tennis shoe of mine! *LOL*
