I Still Miss Him

Today was my Dad's birthday. He died in 1992 . I still miss him very much. I rarely visit the cemetery where he was buried because he is not really there.
He is here, in my memories of him.( picture of my Dad & me when I was 2 years old.) I remember he always wore cowboy boots when he wasn't wearing his Army boots. I remember him playing his guitar and singing songs, mostly Country Western, to us and with us.I remember him helping us build our house. I remember how much fun he was. I remember so many, many things about him and ... I miss him. My grown children still miss him. The song being sung by Garth Brooks will always bring to mind my father.I think we played it at his funeral, but I cannot remember for sure because that day is a blur for me.I would say "happy birthday Dad",but he will not hear me ~ so I say "Thank-you" to my heavenly Father for giving me my earthly Father . I still miss him.~

  5. Thank you for sharing your memories. I feel the same way about my Dad's grave...he isn't there. Someone told me, when my Father died, that I would think of him everyday but after a while, I'd just think of the good things. I miss my Dad too. That was sweet Kathy.

  8. Hi Kathy B.,

What a lovely tribute to your Dad. I can only guess at how much you miss him. Thank you for the lovely song too.

Today is the 4th anniversary of my dear FIL, and brings up many memories of him.

I hope that you will have a good day as you remember and celebrate your father and will not feel too sad.

    God bless,

    Kathy

  13. Yes Garth Brooks "the last dance" which he did with his 4 daughters in his transition from this world to the next.It was a sad yet joyful dance with our father as we wrapped our arms around his heart..a very special time for us.

  14. I try to keep his memory alive by telling stories about him to my kids. Maybe they can feel a little bit like they knew him. He was a fun Grandpa and a great role model.
Look! I'm back online after our 3 weeks of no computer! Got the new one up and running tonight. Still lots of work to get done before I can get back to blogging.

  16. Dear Kathy,

Some years ago you left a comment on my blog that really encouraged me. I hope I can return the favour today.

May you be comforted by the fact your father is very much alive (Matt.22:32)!

But I still miss my Dad too. Thanks for sharing your heart.

  17. I couldn't leave a message first time I read your post (yesterday) - missing my father so much and your lovely tribute to your Dad - well I am still a bit emotional thank you for sharing your memories - a girl's Dad is always her Dad and helps her understand what to seek in a husband and train up her sons.

  20. Beautiful tribute to your Dad, Kathy.
I understand why you don't visit the cemetary much... I'm the same way about my Mom. I've even had some hurtful things said since I don't go and leave flowers at her grave on special occasions, but I tried to give her "flowers" while she was living. I also know she is in the presence of our Savior- all that is in the ground is the vessel she used here.
Sorry to go on and on. Thanks for playing one of my favorite songs, too.
