Two weekends ago I found two of my ewes had lambed and there was great confusion between them. They had chosen the same spot to have their babies and there were 4 lambs needing a mother. I suspect one of the ewes had triplets ( you can tell which one from the pictures) but she was claiming only one lamb. The gray ewe ( Delilah ) had 3 little lambs bleating at her and she seemed very confused, but chose 2 little ones to tend. No matter what I tried, the 4th little lamb was either rejected calmly by Delilah, or speared by a horn ( Thora) and flung far. Now, I am little Cindy's mother. She sleeps in a bin in our sun-room and drinks her formula from a bottle. She is doing very well . So yes, I am Little Lamb's mother. Kathy had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb, Kathy had a little lamb ...
So you and Mary are getting up every few hours to feed your babies...I wonder why they reject their babies. You will make a good mommy to her.
ReplyDeleteAw...Cindy sure is adorable. It's sad her mother is rejecting her, but she's lucky to have you to take care of her. Sounds like you're going to be quite busy for a while.

ReplyDeleteUntil I saw the lamb in that bin, I had no perception of the wee size of that sweet baby. I wish I were there to help. What a fun experience. I guess you're used to things like that :D I guess you'll be close to home for awhile, but what fun! I love all things sheep, but I've only touched one once. Perhaps you'll have some lambs when I take my vacation there :-)

ReplyDeleteBottle fed babies are such sweeties - hope she is one you can keep. Tiny and beautiful - you and she are blessing one another with this time. Lots of people grumble about bottle feeding a bummer - and I find it so sweet - almost asked friends this year if I could have their "needs a momma" but alas - none forthcoming.
