ReplyDeletep.s. yesterday at the craft store, they had oversized cups for kids to decorate - these things were big enough to pot a plant in. That's what Mr. Turkey needs!

A turkey has to maintain some dignity (what?) definitely growing up fast and teacup far too small - I was interested in the petunias also - what an unusual color!

I saw a peacock the other day on the front porch of a house. I thought he was beautiful, and never realized how even those birds might want to be near people, or handled. Of course, just because he was on the porch doesn't mean he was friendly.

Amy, they are, but if they were not Midget Whites they would barely for on the table by now.
LindaSue, these turkeys are the most docile and quiet turkeys I have ever raised. I am becoming very attached to them, so much so I ordered 15 more to raise. ( am I insane?)The petunias are pretty aren't they, and the photo portrays their true color.
Beth, thank-you.I have read Abraham Lincoln's blog off and on and always come away glad I had visited.
Dolores, the turkeys are a bit gawky, and they remind me of awkward , tall, teenage boys right now. Even their voices do, they are kind of between the chirps of poults and trying to be a bit more grow-up sounding like real turkeys.
Leslie, if I get one of those giant tea cups Mildred mentioned , maybe not! But my precious Blue Willow is to special for the turkeys to play around anymore.
Mary, the peacock probably was friendly. Most of the peacocks hanging around homes here seem to have been naturalized, but still hang out by homes accepting hand-outs. Making nuisances of themselves and leaving messes on porches. I love peacocks though and if my husband or brother-in-law next door did not have such practical objections ( what's with this being practical business anyway?)I would have a few myself.
ReplyDeleteKathleen, they are not hard to raise and are very quick to grow to slaughter size ( sorry, but that is why turkeys are raised folks). Turkeys also provide one of the best and efficient feed to meat ratio per pound and dollar.Pork is the other. Turkeys are also not as stupid as rumored, just take a gander at any hunting channel as the hunters are stalking turkeys.My little Midget Whites are mostly destined for breeding so I can pursue a constant supply through the years of home raised turkey for the freezer. A few Toms will be gracing our table as DINNER though.
Sandra, you're right. Plus , sitting in the teacup is becoming dangerous to my tea cup.
Nancy M. I think you all would do well at giving turkey raising a try at your place. You already do so well with chickens.
Mary, yes, he is gawky. Actually, I think this turkey is a she, but time will tell. I bought the ingredients for your asparagus soup today, cannot wait to make it and EAT it!
