In June 2016 we sold Cedar Pond and moved over the mountains and far away. We now live in Deer Park , WA where the weather is a bit more extreme than Cedar Pond's and in spite of the challenges we're rejoicing in life in our new home with field and forest just outside our back door. God is so good to us !

Bucket Bird
This bucket is on a stump near our woodshed. I spied a bird in the bucket and my husband dubbed this bird "Bucket Bird".This bird frequents the bucket lately, and I am wondering if the bucket full of sedums is being considered a possible nesting site . It is February after all, and I did spy the swallows checking out the birdhouse they nest in every year.
This little Song Sparrow did not seem too concerned about me being so close, and maybe thought the bucket concealed him / her. "Birds are to see, to hear, to store in memory." Allan D.Cruckshank ~Most of the birds around our home do not seem too concerned with my presence though, and sometimes perch nearby when they see me filling the bird feeders. They often land on the feeders as soon as I re-fill them, paying no mind to me.
Have you ever heard the Song Sparrow sing? "...we judge bird song not by its musical quality nor even by its creativeness, but by its effect on the human spirit." Len Eiserer
"Then God said. "Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let the birds fly above the earth in open expanse of the heavens." Genesis 1:20
"Look for the birds with your ears." William Saunders ~
Song Sparrow : "One of the most familiar and widespread North American songbirds...Habitats vary from weedy fields and brushy areas to open woods, backyards and gardens, desert , scrub, and salt marshes." 'An Audubon Handbook, WESTERN BIRDS

It is so sweet to watch a little bird prepare a nest, even when the place they pick isn't convenient for us. We've had nests in open drawers in the shop, or some shoes left outside, and a hanging plant right over the BBQ grill. We don't disturb them, we just postpone using those items until the birds haved raised their families.
How sweet the song I hear. Popping in to wish you and your hubby a Happy Valentines Day.
How sweet! If it was here, it has to be very careful because of all our outside/barn cats here. Leaving on vacation with my parent's, a week from Tuesday! We're leaving on the 22nd of February.
Blessings,
Amy
That is just beautiful. I love bucket bird and your photos are wonderful. Thanks for sharing it :)
Happy Valentine’s Day--I absolutely love my little, sweet sheep.
Hugs, Amy
Love the bucket...and the bird!
Many of our birds take refuge in the prickly shrub rose, where we often see the hawk waiting. Watching. Hungry....
I look forward to learning whether or not there's a nest in that bucket. Will it then be called the Nest Bucket?
That little bird is so sweet. He is just the picture of peace and rest, isn't he? He looks very comfortable there. Perhaps he's just waiting for Spring. ;=)
Such a cute little fellow! They are fun to watch in the springtime. Happy Valentine's day to you, Kathy! :)
I like your little "bucket bird"...:o) It's very lovely!
Great pictures capturing this little sparrow, Kathy! Even these lowliest of birds the Lord has a care for - I'm reminded of those verses, and I know He cares for me!
Good Morning Kathy, Hope you are feeling better. When I awoke this a.m. the first thing I was aware of was birdsong. It certainly puts a smile on my face! Wishing you a wonderful day.
I just love bucket bird!!!! And sparrows are just a favorite of mine. Always have been, ever since I was a little kid. For two years now, a pair of wrens have used my hanging planter as a nest. They seem to love Buster's brown hairs and weaves them into the grasses and twigs they have gathered. I just can't break it up, so it is hanging there until they decide to move on.
Your fat little bucket bird is so sweet, looks like he's found himself a good home.
Hugs,
I love "Bucket Bird", Kathy! It's always such a wonderful surprise to find little nests in strange places... I have a wren building a nest in the feed room right now~ inside an old tennis shoe of mine! *LOL*
