Our granddaughter KN and I sew together most Tuesdays. Tuesdays are not just for tea, but for sewing with KN and sharing a cup of tea together. My sewing skills are very basic. I figure if I teach KN some basic skills she can then take these skills to even higher levels, and sew with the intensity, joy, and creativity she has shown since she was very little. Here she is using my sewing machine, the Kenmore sewing machine my Grandmother gave me. It is as old as me- more than half a century, and working just fine.
KN has chosen a blue flannel material with clouds for the pajama bottoms she will sew.
Voila! I think today she did very well, and tonight she will wear these warm flannel pajama bottoms to bed.Next week's assignment, sewing matching pajama bottoms for her American Girl doll, Josephina. ~"Creativity is the quality you bring to the activity that you are doing. How fun to make matching PJ's for her doll! She has always loved material and working with her hands. I hope you'll share her next project with us.
It is so great that you are teaching your granddaughter to sew. I did that with my daughter and bought her a sewing machine for Christmas when she was 11. Now she can do anything with that machine. She never uses a pattern. She is great at altering her own clothes. I think she started with pillows but pajamas were one of the first things she made also. Thanks for bringing back great memories. And thanks for your encouragement that you gave me in your comments on my blog (I love that you share your extra eggs!).

She did well!...and so did you. Teaching your granddaughter to sew is giving her a skill that is both useful and a source of entertainment and beauty for years to come. I love the bond that is obvious between the two of you.
I am very impressed Kathy, both with KN's sewing and your encouragement. How lovely that you two do that together. People don't sew together as much these days do they. My auntie taught me to crochet and my mum taught me to knit and sew. I am so grateful to the both of them now!
