Strawberries!

"One must ask children and birds how cherries and strawberries taste." Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Isn't that the truth? We NEVER get any of our cherries, the birds descend on them at the first blush of red and clean us out, so I call them the bird feeder trees. We do get strawberries though. Yes, the birds, bunnies, and human nibblers get quite a few too. Above is a picture of the strawberry harvest I get every day. I have already made a lot of strawberry jam, and will make 2 more batches tomorrow. I still have strawberries in the freezer from last year too! So Alice, of Woebegone Cottage, come on over and pick all the strawberries you want! And granddaughters KN and MN, you come on over and help yourselves too!

Can you fed-ex those strawberries overnight?!! Boy, they look good.
I know what you mean about the cherries. The squirrels used to get our pecans!

Strawberries are on sale at the grocery store this week so I have berries but they are from california..I do wait for the cherries from washington and then only will buy a few times ..they are pricey. It is one treat my husband and I enjoy. He still remembers my dads cherry tree when he first came to wasington state.
thhose were good cherries. Thanks Kathy I will be over soon. We could make jam and pies together.

Oh, how I love fresh strawberries. They look delicious, Kathy! We had cherry trees when I was a kid growing up. We used to drape yards and yards of netting over them in an attempt to keep the birds out. They would still get some of them, but at least we would get some too that way. My mom would use them to make pies and jam. :)

Mildred, 2 of our granddaughters ate their way through ALL the first ripe strawberries, when the blueberries are ripe, same thing!

Mary, fresh from the garden strawberries are the best! I think we are obligated to eat a lot of them right off the plant, how else would you know what a good strawberry tastes like?

Amy, especially with ice cream!

Karen, wish I could, maybe some strawberry jam though!

Thistle Cove, I remember reading all the blogs a month ago that were already harvesting fruits and veggies that are just now ripening here in the Pacific Northwest.

Wobegon Cottage, you're sounding homesick. Yeah, your Dad manages to get a lot of cherries from his tree , but the birds still get their share there too! We had our engagement photo taken under that tree!

Daisy, we should drape netting over the trees, but I am not too good at climbing ladders AND throwing netting over them while I maintain my balance.

My all time favorite dessert is a home baked cherry pie, with fresh picked and pitted cherries! MMMMMMm

Kathy - can't those agile young men in your family cover the cherry trees? I think Birdie and your sons could be more than capable! Sad to think of cherries JUST feeding the birds - they can have a taste but oh my I miss good cherries - prices usually too high here. Your berries look luscious - I join the chorus of oh YUM

Ooooh that picture made my mouth water, Kathy! I have yet to see any strawberries... or maybe the hens are finding them before I do! (This is a very good possibility! LOL)
