A Quiet Evening Before Christmas

This little church belonged to my husband's parents. I found it in the buffet he inherited from them. I remember them having it out on display during Christmas. There is a hole in the back of the little church so it can be put into the tree with a Christmas light inserted. Since the church is cardboard I am unwilling to risk the fire hazard it could be, but maybe once in awhile I'll put little fairy lights in it for a few hours. The light shining through the tiny faux stained- glass windows is so pretty.
I am still not finished decorating our home. Maybe by December's end I'll be done, just in time to take it all down and pack it away. The fireplace mantle is always a challenge because we use the wood-stove all day , every day this time of the year and anything hanging below the mantle gets way too hot ( so must be fire-proof ) and also gets in the way of adding firewood and stoking the fire. We don't usually put our Christmas stockings out until Christmas Eve but I am thinking about new stockings for us this year and putting them up early. Yeah yeah, I know a few days before Christmas doesn't qualify as early for many of you who had your homes decorated and stockings hung the day after Thanksgiving, maybe next year I'll have it together . ( I say that to myself every year )
Try decorating your mantle with all these furry nappers to maneuver around. My husband & I have a tradition of watching our collection of A Christmas Carol DVD's every December as the days draw close to Christmas but tonight the TCM network was showing them.( Our favorite versions are the ones starring George C. Scott & Patrick Stewart. ) My husband and I had a quiet evening tonight, and this is just what we have needed. He baked his Berry Butternut * cookies while I decorated and wrote Christmas cards, which will be mailed out on Monday, too late for Christmas delivery. I am so behind in my Christmas duties ....
...but as Tiny Tim says..." God bless us everyone " .

I've got that "next year" syndrome too. I pulled off the perfect Christmas once when my in-laws were visiting but all I remember was how tired I was.

We haven't got a fireplace or any furry friends lounging around on fluffy pillows, but we enjoyed an evening watching Joyeux Noel and eating Snickerdoodles tonight.

What a little treasure to find and display at Christmas. I love the little houses and churches. The photo of the animals snoozing is so calming and sweet. I didn't realize you had three other dogs besides your shepherd. They are happy looking ones for sure. We have freezing rain falling right now so I am up early and pondering the road conditions. I have many houses to visit for cat-care. Don't worry about being ready for Christmas...it just will be what it is. I'm sure you will have a wonderful time with your family. Hugs, Deb

Yes, we too seem to be behind this year. Your house looks lovely though, especially with those furry nappers! Thank you for brightening our little world this year with your posts, enjoyed reading them very much. A very Merry Christmas to you. x

We are behind with things this year too, but in the end those things won't matter as much as celebrating Christmas. Your decorations are lovely, Kathy. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I saved the card you sent me last year because it is so beautiful and exemplifies Christmas. I had to laugh at your pets napping 'all over the place'. Your home looks lovely and it sounds as though you have your Christmas planned very nicely.

May you have a wonderful and bless Christmas!
Your place looks great.

I didn't get much decorating done this year and I'm giving myself permission to be alright with this. Maybe next year I will get an earlier start.

Season's greetings,
d

I love your fireplace made out of bricks! NICE! My Shug and I just watched A Christmas Carol with George C. Scott and I LOVED IT!
I hope you and your furry friends have a Merry Christmas. It's about the memories anyway, and not the stuff, so have fun, make memories, and you'll get it all done next year!

Kathy, how about one of those tiny battery operated tea lights for the church? It doesn't throw off any heat and might work.
Merry Christmas to you and yours; may you be overwhelmed with God's blessings.
