They're watching you ! Yes, your children & grandchildren are watching you. The grown-ups in their life are amazing to them , and most important of all is the example of their parents. Everything little children see you do is filed away in their little brains. Little brains that hold an infinite amount of information they "download" throughout their lives to aid them in making decisions about pretty much everything. If the adults they love and want to emulate are good and of godly character, children have an example filed away for all their lives of how to behave and react for good. If little children are taught God's ways by parents who love God and live for Him, they have a blessing & a treasure money cannot buy. This is a treasure they will use all their lives. Even if they might lose it for awhile, it is stored away to be found when needed and sought.
The picture above is of our youngest son shoveling snow while his infant son is watching from indoors. My heart is happy when I see my grandchildren learning from their parents how to work , and that work is not unpleasant, but a blessing & a privilege. I remember many years ago when our youngest son ( shown above shoveling snow ) was a very little boy. I happened to glance out our kitchen window and see him following my husband around and saw my son stop and deliberately rearrange himself to imitate my husband's walk and stance. That memory is forever imprinted in my mind and causes me to be thankful for a godly husband who is also a godly father & grandfather.
Fill your children's lives with men & women of good character & godly influence. Ask God to show you wisdom & discernment regarding the people you allow into your children's lives, and that includes t.v. shows , internet access, teachers and babysitters, video games. Your children count on you, the adults in their lives to love and protect them in a way no one else can or will. Our children are our heritage and our blessing. "train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6
In June 2016 we sold Cedar Pond and moved over the mountains and far away. We now live in Deer Park , WA where the weather is a bit more extreme than Cedar Pond's and in spite of the challenges we're rejoicing in life in our new home with field and forest just outside our back door. God is so good to us !

Hello Kathy, thank you for your kind words and just want to say I love the view of all your snow. I know it makes lots of work but it looks wonderful to these SoCal eyes of mine.
We see the results today in our society of so many children having no one to validate and teach them. I was one of those. Coming to Christ was the thing that saved me in more ways than one and I am thankful for Him. It made the difference for my kids as He taught me how to value my children and how much my influence would mean to them. Then He stepped in many times when I screwed up. My children knew they were loved and wanted, but most of all they know they have a Heavenly Father and they are teaching their children that too.
I know you've instilled that in your children and they are doing the same.
What a wise investment He has helped us make.
Great thoughts, Kathy. It's good to treat our children as gifts from the Lord and to consider the best for them.
boys learn to be men by watching the men in their lives. I think of this each time I'm off the farm and see children with adults. Recently, a woman in a store told a couple, "Your little girls are beautiful; I love them to pieces and want to take them home!" -apparently, those little girls and the woman's child were in the same class at school- The very young adult male replied, "Well, you can have them both!" and I cringed. Yes, he was teasing but what did those little girls hear? Was the seed planted they were unwanted? Unloved by their daddy? What seeds were planted...seeds of goodness, grace, mercy and love or seeds of wondering for the rest of their lives?
It made an ever growing ache hurt all the more.
work is joking called a four letter word as if it is a curse - your family shows the results of knowing how to work and how to play and often combining work and play so we readers can't see the separation! Bless y'all
So well said. xoox
Such a great picture of your grandson watching your son. Seeds, good or bad, do get planted early, and affect lives so dramatically. It's wonderful to see the good seeds being planted in your family Kathy.
How true your words are! Just loved this post!Stay warm!
This is a beautiful post, Kathy. I really like that photo too. It's true, they are always watching.
Absolutely agree, I know some folks have thought us too controlling at how we have not allowed our daughter to mix with certain people, BUT, we know....it is for her best, and the years unfolding have proven this true, as I look at the struggles some other kids have, who do not exercise such discretion....
Thank you Kathy, for your ever great perspective!
I really appreciate you thoughts here. Sometimes when I felt my boys were not working or helping very much they were watching and learned good things. Both guys are such hard workers now and they don't hesitate to jump in on any project.
