Vacationing Where My Heart Desires

My poor husband. He loves to travel and see new and exciting places. Unfortunately he is stuck with me, and I HATE to travel! I was an Army brat and we moved frequently. I don't know how many schools I attended, but we seemed to move way too often for me. We traveled by car when the Army decided to transfer our Dad, with the exception of our 3 years in Hawaii, the car just would not take us there. I remember telling myself I would not marry a soldier and I was going to stay put when I did grow up. Besides, I get car-sick very easily, so traveling across country is not pleasant for me. I guess if you're not prone to car-sickness just imagine being nauseous and feeling like barfing your way across country. Not too pleasant for my traveling companions either. During many vacations away from home, although I did enjoy myself, the places we went, the company we kept...I would always find myself straying over to pet dogs being walked by complete strangers and I would miss my dogs.I find myself gazing longingly at sheep and goats along side the highways and by-ways, and then miss my sheep and goats. My kind husband would put up with me dragging him off to check out yarn and fiber shops and taking time to speak to the spinners and weavers at tourist sights. Every cat I would see reminded me of my cats, and I would miss my cats. The beautiful gardens made me want to work in MY garden. Good grief, I might as well be home enjoying MY flocks, dogs and cats, our gardens and pond. ( Hey, I can go boating here too) Hmmm,if I took my vacation here, at home,I could use the vacation time to spin up my wool, read books I have stacked by the bed. I might even take time to enjoy our jacuzzi tub and bedroom fireplace...better than those of many a hotel or motel we have slept in. Best of all , I will not be obligated to go anywhere unless the urge strikes. I know, I WILL vacation here at home! And I am, for the next 3 days. I am so excited, a Stay-cation in my favorite place of all. The best thing about a vacation here at home is I get to share it with my husband and he enjoys home too.

Good Morning Kathy, I am exactly like you! I love to be "home." I like to read about and see pictures of sights around the country but like you, I get air, sea and car sick!!! I savor my time with our pets on our porch enjoying our valley. I guess that is why you and I enjoy blogging so much. We get the best of both worlds!!! Enjoy your time with Jim.

I admit to truly enjoying travel - but life has changed and with those changes I appreciate ever more deeply the joys of "being" not doing. Our home is set up just right for us - no worries about care for our goats or dogs and certainly we know the food will be to our liking! Staycations are great - enjoy.

I know what you mean! I love to see new places and visit family and friends, but the travel part is simply a means to an end, as I really hate leaving home. We are vacationing this year to Wisc. to a cabin on a lake with a pontoon. We are taking kid and dog with us, so I will be content with those things about me:)

Funny - The Great Dane and I were talking about that very thing last night - how we long to just stay home and enjoy our house and garden together. I'll be travelling for work next week, and that always gets me going - I so much rather stay home!(and I was an Air Force brat who married a military man!)

Well, we like to travel a little. I hate flying, but I will if the destination is too far. But I sure love to be home, too.

Just no place like it!!!

I love traveling though, maybe we'll travel more often once we have no more goats to take care of though! But my Mom and myself are planning a trip to Michigan the end of the month for a Memorial service for my cousin's grandma that they couldn't do in December!

My Dad, my Mom, and myself are planning another trip to Georgia the end of June but we have helpers lined up to take care of our critters for us!

A STAYcation sounds restful!

Dear Kathy, I grew up basically in the same house from age 4 to 18.

I still have dreams of this safe haven. It was when I married and my hubby moved us around so much that I felt like a fish out of water.

I grew to think that about every 2 years we're suppose to relocate. Slowing down on this these days!

Have a delightful day and God bless,
d

I like that corner photo of your house. Not an angle we see often of it but it's a nice spot to photograph it from! The phrase from Bill Murray in What About Bob comes to mind " A Vacation from my problems! " I like to travel - I love airplanes, airports, motels, the smell of a store parking lot in another state preferably with less rain and warmer climate ... seeing how things and people work in other areas and long drives too where we get to stop at Burger King!

I enjoy staying home too! Although it is good for me to get out every once in a while, so I can appreciate things more. Like when we came home from California I couldn't get over all the green, and now I always look forward to May!

We both love to travel. And thank goodness neither one of us gets air or car sick. But I also think staying at home is fun too. I spend many days at work so I enjoy home.

I do not miss vacations. I am also very much a homebody. A short drive is about as much as I can take. Happy here, trying to have a quiet life.

Kathy, when I worked in the corporate world I craved vacations.

My father was in the Army. Moving was a normalty. Even the times when we lived on base we sometimes moved from section to section. The adjustments were tough.

So...home really is where the heart is. And I think it is a blessing.

Kathy, I like to travel every once in a great while, but mostly I am a homebody like you. I completely understand your sentiments here. I hope you enjoy the next few days to the fullest!

Your home and all of your surroundings are so pretty. Vacationing at home a great way to go, and best of all, it's cheaper too.

I love your Spot On Cedar Pond!!

I hope you're enjoying your staycation! I love to travel and my hubby does too, so I guess we're lucky that way. If only we had the money to go, lol!
